In an industry often criticized for its environmental impact and labor practices, Lancout stands committed to a different approach—one where fashion meets responsibility without sacrificing style or quality. Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes to understand how we create sustainable fashion that you’ll love wearing season after season.
Our Sustainability Journey
When we founded Lancout, we asked ourselves a crucial question: how can we create beautiful clothing that women love while minimizing our environmental footprint? This question guides every decision we make, from material selection to packaging choices.
Our journey isn’t perfect—sustainability is a continuous evolution—but our commitment to improvement remains unwavering. Here’s a glimpse into our process:
Thoughtful Material Selection
Every Lancout piece begins with careful material selection. We prioritize:
Organic Cotton Conventionally grown cotton is one of the most pesticide-intensive crops globally. Our organic cotton is grown without harmful chemicals, using methods that maintain soil health and require less water.
Tencel™ and Modal These cellulosic fibers are created from sustainably harvested wood pulp in a closed-loop process that recycles water and solvents. The result is incredibly soft, breathable fabric with minimal environmental impact.
Recycled Polyester When we need performance qualities that natural fibers can’t provide, we turn to recycled polyester created from post-consumer plastic bottles, giving new life to materials that might otherwise end up in landfills or oceans.
Deadstock Fabrics We rescue high-quality fabrics that would otherwise go unused, incorporating these limited quantities into special capsule collections.
Ethical Manufacturing Partnerships
Beautiful, sustainable materials are only part of the equation. How our clothing is made matters just as much as what it’s made from.
We partner exclusively with factories that:
- Provide safe working conditions
- Pay fair wages
- Limit overtime hours
- Allow regular audits for compliance
- Demonstrate environmental responsibility
Our production partners are located primarily in Portugal and Turkey, where strong labor laws help ensure ethical manufacturing. We maintain direct relationships with these facilities, visiting regularly to maintain quality standards and working conditions.
Design for Longevity
Fast fashion’s disposable approach creates mountains of textile waste. At Lancout, we design with longevity in mind:
- Timeless Silhouettes: We focus on classic designs that transcend seasonal trends
- Quality Construction: Reinforced seams, proper linings, and attention to detail ensure durability
- Versatile Styling: Most pieces work across multiple occasions and seasons
- Thoughtful Color Palette: We emphasize colors that coordinate easily with existing wardrobe items
This approach means our pieces remain relevant and beautiful for years, not weeks—the ultimate form of sustainability.
Our Packaging Evolution
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the garments themselves to how they reach you:
- Recycled and recyclable shipping boxes
- Compostable mailer bags for smaller items
- Hang tags printed on seed paper you can plant
- Digital receipts to minimize paper waste
Continuous Improvement
Transparency is essential to authentic sustainability. While we’re proud of our practices, we recognize there’s always room for improvement. Current initiatives include:
- Developing a garment take-back program for proper recycling
- Increasing our use of natural and low-impact dyes
- Reducing water consumption throughout our supply chain
- Expanding size inclusivity to serve more women
At Lancout, sustainability isn’t a marketing strategy—it’s our foundation. By balancing environmental consciousness with beautiful design, we’re creating fashion that feels good to wear in every sense.
